Editing Services

I would love to help you take your writing to the next level, whether that’s your college application essay, résumé, academic paper, personal statement, or any other document that you want to make absolutely perfect.

Why Me?

I graduated from Brigham Young University’s Editing and Publishing program on the Dean’s list with a 3.99 GPA. For two years, I worked with the university’s Faculty Publishing Service, editing and proofreading academic papers for professors at BYU. I was the executive editor at Cambrick Yard, where I managed a team of over a dozen writers, whom I trained and coached to help them consistently improve their writing. I have edited thousands of papers and news articles, and I know how to make your project stand out.

Client Reviews

I recently had the pleasure of working with Sara McOmber on my paper, and the experience was outstanding. Her attention to detail enhanced the clarity and flow of my work. Not only did she refine the language and structure, but her feedback also helped to improve overall coherence. Sara was professional, communicative, and delivered everything on time. I highly recommend her editing services. —Eddie

I can help with…

College Application Essays

One of the best ways to stand out when you apply to your dream college or university is to submit unique, interesting, and spotless essays. The admissions office will read thousands of essays, but I can help you make sure they remember YOURS.

Résumés and Cover Letters

I was responsible for interviewing and hiring writers at Cambrick Yard, so I read hundreds of résumés and cover letters. I know what makes them stand out versus what makes a hiring manager toss it in the reject pile. I have also successfully applied to several editing positions throughout my career. I know what the job application process is like on both sides, so I can empathize with the difficulty of finding the perfect position and give you tools for success by tailoring your résumé and cover letter to your dream job.

Academic Papers

Writing an important essay or working on your thesis? Maybe you’re submitting a paper to a journal or publishing research after an experiment. Whatever your project is, you don’t have to do it alone. I can provide proofreading and copyediting services to polish your writing and ensure your amazing ideas or results are presented pristinely.

Services

Editing

This is the service you need if you have a first draft that has not been professionally edited. I can provide both substantive and copy editing. With substantive editing, I will look at the work as a whole and give feedback about structure, transitions, and the flow of the writing. Copy editing is the details: I will correct any grammatical mistakes in the writing to polish and perfect it.

College Application Essay Tutoring

For college application essays, I offer an optional tutoring session following my edits to go through the changes with the writer and explain why I made certain changes and how they can apply those corrections to their future writing.

Proofreading

If your writing has already gone through several drafts and been edited professionally, I can be a final set of eyes to catch mistakes that may have fallen through the cracks.

Rates

Editing and Proofreading: $45 per hour

The number of hours a project will take depends on the type of editing needed and how much work a document requires. On average, I can copy-edit a document that needs a lot of changes at a rate of about 500 words per hour; I can copy-edit a document that needs an average amount of changes at about 1,000 words per hour; and I can proofread a document at a rate of about 2,000 words per hour.

Most college application essays are fewer than 650 words, so I can generally edit one to two per hour.

Send me an email with the details of your project, and I’ll provide a free quote with no obligation on your part!

College Application Essay Tutoring: $30 for a half-hour tutoring session

This is an optional add-on service. After I edit your essays, I will meet with you for a half-hour to review my edits and provide details about why I made the changes I did. I will highlight a few grammatical principles that you can apply to your writing for future projects and assignments.
